Dear friends,
This letter is the first wave of reaching out to those closely connected with the Portland’s Living Wisdom School (LWS) through myself or others who are deeply involved. As most of you know, I’ve been sharing my life with the Portland LWS since 2007. I first started as a work exchange parent and progressively invested more of my self into this amazing school. I’ve been formally directing the school since the fall of 2012, and as we begin this new school year, I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of it.
A vision for a more suitable space for our growing school started in 2010. After many steps, we broke ground for our new 4500 sq. ft. building (on campus) last summer and as of February 2016, we’ve had a roof, walls and the outline of what’s to come. Since February, progress on the project has been limited by lack of funding and we are actively seeking solutions on every front.
The kind of education we offer is making a huge impact on our students, their families and communities. We have 47 students this year and 12 core faculty who are stellar and deeply committed to the unfoldment of each child’s true potential. Each year gets better and better, I can hardly believe the miracles and depth of compassion, kindness and creativity that I get the privilege to witness every day.
Those that see me frequently, know that I can go on and on with stories of lives transforming as a direct result of their participation at Living Wisdom. But this letter isn’t a vehicle to share stories of the families or faculty, it is a vehicle to ask for your support.
We are at a critical point in the project, and we need committed support. We need help from those who believe in this new expression of education and are willing to use their financial resources to help propel this project to its next phase of completion.
To begin this first wave of reaching out, I am setting up a direct monthly payment to LWS to support the school, and I ask that you do the same. My commitment will continue until the project is complete. I ask that you do the same. When the building is complete and can be occupied, I will reassess whether my monthly support is still needed and then make a choice to proceed or contribute in another way. I ask that you do the same.
The current monthly bill of the project is almost $4000. If a hundred people supported the school with $40/ month, the school’s financial burden would decrease significantly. If you can afford more, we can move more strongly in the direction of completion. “40 to fly or more to soar” is the slogan we will be using once the micro-donation concept extends to our greater Portland community.
Where we spend our money matters. I appreciate that you believe in what we are doing at LWS, and that you believe in me enough to support in this way. We are more than half way complete, but we need to occupy the space in order to fulfill our mission and meet financial obligations. Our planet desperately needs children who are educated to be forces of positive change–that is what we do! Help us finish this project so we can serve more children and make a bigger impact.
Thank you so much for your friendship and support! The details for giving are below:
