Interview with Keith, an Education for Life Alumni
Keith is a pilot who flies for MC Aviation out of Santa Monica, California. He graduated in 2005 from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a major in aeronautical science and a minor in meteorology. Susan Dermond, director of the Portland, Oregon Living Wisdom School and Keith’s fifth-grade teacher, interviewed him.
Susan: What do you remember best about your experience in an Education for Life school?
Keith: Fun! It was all fun. Of course, like any kid, I liked the field trips best. And all the personal interactions—the friendships with teachers and students.
Susan: You came to Living Wisdom School from a public school, right?
Keith: Yes, in fourth grade. I attended until I graduated from eighth-grade.
Susan: What do you think were the advantages of going there?
Keith: The small class size. It meant we got lots of individual attention. I remember the caring of the teachers and the encouragement to be who you are.
Susan: Was high school difficult after our schools?
Keith: No, I graduated with a 4.0.
Susan: Did you notice any difference between yourself and other kids you met in high school or college that you attribute to our school?
Keith: Oh, yeah. I feel I’ve really found myself—mentally, spiritually, and career-wise. And I feel like I did it at a young age compared to most.
