The Environment
Ananda Village is situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just 25min from Nevada City/Grass Valley. From San Francisco/Bay Area it’s about 3 to 4 hrs drive, depending on traffic. We offer 800 acres of rolling hills, meadows, lakes, and forests. It houses Ananda’s first spiritual intentional community, where over 200 people live and work together. (Watch Finding Happiness, a movie about who we are and what we do.) This is an ideal setting for the children and parents to experience what it is like to live in nature and in a spiritual community. We have goats, cows, and chickens that children can visit. We also have wild animals. Deer love to come by at dusk to eat in our green area.
The closest airports are Sacramento (SFM) or Reno (RNO,) a 90min car ride.
Banyan House
The program is offered in Banyan House, (see photos below) our Living Wisdom high school dorm. It’s a large luminous home with seven bedrooms, large kitchen, and dining/living room area. Bathrooms are shared with adjoining rooms.
Rooms have large windows and are spacious. They fit two to four people. In the rooms you’ll find beds, quilts, and pillows. Some of them have queen, or double, size beds; the others are just single beds. If needed, a mattress can be put on the floor. If you can, we appreciate if you bring your own bedding, towels, and river towels. (There is an extra cleaning charge if we need to provide bedding and towels.) We have the majestic Yuba River near by, which offers great swimming holes for the whole family to enjoy.
Summer Room Rentals
Banyan House is also available for families who want an uplifted vacation, to rent per room or the entire house, every summer during the months of June through August.
Tent Sites
Tent sites, we have three or four, tent sites next to Banyan House, under willow trees. You’ll have access to an adjoining bathhouse. Please bring your own tent, sleeping bag, and whatever is needed to make your camping experience comfortable.
Master’s Market
Master’s Market is a vegetarian grocery, bakery, deli and café, a two-minute walk from Banyan House. It offers organic produces, great selection of gluten free items, as well as fun treats for the whole family. Sit indoors or on the tables on the green lawn, looking into an expansive green field, and savor a meal or treat while enjoying good food, good company and the uplifting surroundings of Ananda Village.
Playground
Best Playground ever, with two covered towers, hanging bridge, two slides, small climbing wall, picnic table for children, swings, and more. It’s just in front of Banyan House. It’s a great place for kids to enjoy creative play and get a good workout.
